Armine Yalnizyan

Economist and Atkinson Fellow on the Future of Workers , Atkinson Foundation

Armine Yalnizyan is the Atkinson Fellow on the Future of Workers and a leading voice on Canada’s economic scene. She was senior economic policy advisor to the federal Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Development Canada in 2018 and 2019, brought in to help future-proof their labour market adjustment policies. During the pandemic she raised awareness of the she-cession and the care economy and served on a high-level federal task group. Armine provided weekly business commentary for both CBC radio and TV from 2011 to 2018 and wrote a regular business column for the Toronto Star from 2021 to 2024. Armine has written for and been interviewed by Bloomberg, Washington Post, Reuters, Canadian Press, Al Jazeera and The Guardian. She won the Galbraith Prize in Economics in 2023 with a lecture on the evolution of economic thought. She has been Vice-President and President of the Canadian Association for Business Economics since 2017. She has a bilingual economics degree from York University’s Glendon College and a graduate degree from University of Toronto’s Centre for Industrial Relations.
