Marwa Abdou

Marwa Abdou is the Senior Research Director at the Business Data Lab (BDL), Canadian Chamber of Commerce, where she leads the Research Centre of Excellence and drives a forward-looking agenda on trade, business conditions, and inclusive growth. Since joining in 2022, she has played a pivotal role in shaping how data and insight inform Canada’s economic policy and business strategy.

With over 15 years of global experience, Marwa has led technical assistance and capacity-building projects across the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific, working with institutions such as the World Bank, APEC, OECD, Commonwealth Secretariat, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). She previously served as an advisor to the Minister of International Cooperation of Egypt, supporting private sector engagement and economic diplomacy efforts. Her work spans regulatory reform, trade facilitation, and private sector development, with a consistent focus on inclusion and equity.

Marwa has authored numerous policy papers on gender equity and the economic potential of underrepresented groups, and is co-author of Borders Without Barriers, an Asian Development Bank–published book on regional trade integration in South and Southeast Asia. Marwa holds a Master’s in International Relations and International Economics from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a Bachelor of Commerce with a dual concentration in Finance and Economics from Queen’s University.
